What you need to register your vehicle:

Proof of Insurance
Prior registration
Payment by cash, check, or credit card
For new vehicles purchased from the dealership, bring your packet received from the dealership
For private sales, bring bill of sale and title of the car
Proof of residency
A bill of mail sent to your Maine address
A rental agreement
Mortgage coupon
A delivery receipt for your address in Maine

Moving to Maine?

Convert your registrations and titles to Maine within 30 days of establishing residency
Take your out-of-state title, registration, and insurance to your Maine municipal office.
Pay the Excise tax

Here's what you need to the Excise tax:

Prior out-of-state registration certificate
Prior out-of-state Title (if 1995 or newer)
Proof of Insurance
White & Yellow copy of registration application
Excise Tax receipt from Town Office

Annual Inspection

After the vehicle has been registered in Maine, an annual vehicle is required. If the vehicle has not been inspected before, please get a permit for inspection from the municipal office and go to an inspection station. If the vehicle has been inspected out-of-state, Maine will honor the previous inspection. The vehicle will need to be inspected when the previous inspection sticker expires.
